Toyota Recalls: Current Event 11/12/12

Toyota Recalls
Toyota is recalling 2.77 million vehicles around the world for a water pump problem and a steering shaft defect that may result in faulty steering. No announcements were reported yet due to these problems said toyota but it is really scary thinking how your car could have so many problems you don’t know about. There are over 300 million people in the US and approximently 90% own cars. If you go by toyotas report that 2.77 million cars are being recalled then you can assume that 2.77 million people are at risk of faulty steering. Affected models include the Prius hybrid, Corolla, Wish and other models produced from 2000 to 2011 in Japan. If all of these models are affected it makes you wonder if yours could be even if it isnt listed. This is not the only recall that toyota has had in 2012 which makes it even scarier being a constant thing. Earlier this year toyota recalled 7 million vehicles for a faulty power-window switch that could cause fires. I wonder how many people actually have these problems even before they’re addressed.
Do they sue toyota? Would you sue toyota? I know I would, If they didn’t address the problems of their vehicles then I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t sue. I mean faulty steering is a big deal because you could die and so is faulty power-window switch if your car catches on fire it could be fatal. My grandma has a toyota and so does my sister. If anything happen to them because of the toyota problems then you know my family would sue. Toyota’s defense is that these recalls were caused by the companys overly ambitious growth goals. So I think they’ve slowed down a bit and took into consideration to get better quality workers and machines.

Langston Hughes Essay

Eli Tatman 4A

                                                                                                                              10/31/12

Does Langston Hughes think it is a moral obligation to practice philanthropy?

Langston Hughes thinks that it is a moral obligation to practice philanthropy. The reason why is because if you read the short story he wrote Thank You Ma'am you can see the things the character in his story does to practice philanthropy. In the story a troubled kid tried to steal a purse from a woman walking on the street. That didn’t turn out very well for the kid because he got kicked in his blue-jeaned sitter. After that the woman said, “Pick up my pocketbook, boy, and give it here.” Then she said, “Now ain’t you ashamed of yourself?” The boy was lying to her saying that he didn’t mean to. He wanted to get away, he was scared. The woman would not let him go because he said he’ll run. She asked him if anybody was to home to tell him to wash his face he said no. She said, “then it’ll get washed this evening.”

To make it easier to see that Langston Hughes thinks it’s a moral obligation to practice philanthropy I’m going to act as if he is this woman, even though they’re very much different. After attempted robbery on Langston Hughes, or the woman, he still wants to take him home to wash his face. The boy did not want to go with her but she dragged him all the way to her house. He told her his name was Roger. She finally let him loose and told him to wash his hands, He was thinking about running but didn’t. She said he’ll eat there as well. She asked him why he tried to take her pocketbook. “I wanted a pair of blue suede shoes,” said the boy. There was silence and then she said, “I have done things, too, which I would not tell you, son neither tell God, if he didn’t already know.” After eating, She gave him ten dollars and told him to go buy some blue suede shoes and never try to steal someone else’s pocketbook again.

Langston Hughes thinks it is a moral obligation to practice philanthropy. By writing this story Thank You Ma'am about a 14 or 15 year old kid trying to take her purse and afterwards, taking him home because he looks like hasn’t showered or eaten in a while. He wrote about this woman doing this good thing for someone who was troubled in doing bad things. Langston writing this story of the helping of this kid sets an example for him thinking it is a moral obligation to practice philanthropy.

Man arrested for harmful materials on plane.

A man wearing a bulletproof vest and fire-resistant pants was arrested at the LA international Airport after finding a smoke grenade is his luggage. Authorities also found a gas mask, leg irons and weapons within his luggage. This happened on Tuesday, it is weird because on Friday before the day the man was arrested, A 28 year old Yongda Huang Harris was arrested Friday on suspicion of transporting harmful materials on a flight from Japan to Boston. This could be related to the 9/11 attacks that airplanes are endangered by people with harmful ideas or weapons. Harris is a United States citizen, living in Boston. He recently started working and living in Japan. Police have no idea what motive he had with the materials and don’t believe he is linked to a terrorist organization. Police are not sure what the materials were in his luggage.

This is scary because it makes me and others wonder if the airport is unsafe or if people we know and love are in danger by flying across the world. Although there is no direct motive we know that these weapons were in his luggage it really is a scary thought to think about. I’ve been in one plane and it was after 9/11, I was so paranoid and I don’t think I’ll ever fly again unless I absolutely have to. Another thing about planes is in recent weeks American Airlines seats have been coming loose while flying and on one plane the engine malfunctioned and caused them to almost crash. Even if people that do bring materials like these on the plane have no motive at all for any terrorist acts it still acts as a threat to our national security and to be honest I don’t like it one bit. I’m glad nothing happened if anything was going to though. It’s good we have good security to detect these materials in peoples luggage.

Gunmen Kills Students at Nigerian College
In our world today a lot of crazy things happen, one of those crazy things being a shooting, happens all the time. Everytime you turn on the news it always seems like the same story in a different place. This time, a gunmen opens fire in North Eastern Nigeria at a college, killing and injuring an unknown amount of people. The scary thing about this is even though its across the world a shooting can happen anywhere. You never know what kind of danger you are going to be in when going somewhere. The attack took place at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi in Adamawa state. Police don't know wether the shooting was caused by a political feud inside the college or if it was targeted by the Islamic insurgents. Its scary to hear about a shooting, but its even more scary when you dont even know the cause of it.

Today, i'd say mostly in America, People just lose their minds and do crazy things that not only impact their life but others aswell. Alot of innocent people are hurt because of stupid things people do. I don't think there is any way to stop this sort of violence or rage because its out of everyones control. I don't think of any truely good reason to shoot someone, although I don't know much about politics or other countries hatred for eachother wether its religion or politics I don't see any reason for anyone to take someones life. I wonder what gos on in peoples head in the middle of a shooting like "Am I going to die?" Or just the shooters head, what is going on in there? There is no good understanding of why someone does this but its something that will continue to happen as the human race goes on.

Narcissus and Echo image

The man in this image shows Narcissus from the myth. In the picture, Narcissus is looking at him self in the water and he cannot look away, just like in the myth where it says  "His eys fixed on the mirrored image never may know their longings satisfied, and by their sight he is himself undone" (paragraph 435). By not taking his eyes away from the mirrored image of himself, I can infer that this is Narcissus because he is in love with himself and doesnt want to lose the image.

Record Sales For iPhone 5

In  our  world  today,  almost  everyone  relies  on  technology  in  one  way  or    another.  There  is  one  thing  most  people  look  forward  to  every  year  and  that’s the  iPhone  5.  Therefore  you  may  expect  there  to  be  a  large  group  of  people  that  our  going  to  buy  the  iPhone  5. We  spend  a  lot  of  money  on  electronic devices,  especially  when  its  new  everybody  “has  to have  it”.  A  new  iPhone  is released  every  year,  this  year,  the  iPhone  5.  The  iPhone  5  had  2  million  pre-orders  within  24  hours,  That  just  pretty  much  proves  when  we  want  something we  will  get  it. AT&T  declared  it  the  fastest-selling  iPhone  to  date. What  that means  to  me  is  when  years  go  on  technology  sells  go  up  because  they’re  more advanced.

America  has  developed  over  time,  think  about  it  before  the  1990s  we  didn’t have  all  of  this  advanced  technology. We  couldn’t  just  call  someone  anytime  we wanted  because  we  wanted  to  tell  them  something. We  couldn’t  text  people  just to  say  hey. Back then, People  wrote  letters  to  each  other, everyone  was  more social. In  our  society  today  we  may  even  text  a  person  in  the  same  house  as  us. In  my  opinion, Technology  will  take  over  us. Americans  jobs  will be  taken  over  by machines  and  other  technology. When  we  think  about  it  all  we  want  is  the  new stuff, once  something  comes  out  we  want  it  because  its  new  and  everybody will have  it  so  they  don’t  want  to  feel  left  out.

I  am  someone  who  is  into  technology, I  love  it. However  I’ve  never  owned  an iPhone  and  I  most  likely  will  never  get  one. I  have  a  simple  phone  that  I  can call and  text  people  from.  I  do  think  its  really  cool  to  read  and  see  what   it  does  but  I’m  not  in  to  it. Most of my friends get the new iPhone every year and they really like it. So, does this record sell mean that as time gos on we advance with the technology or does technology leave us behind?
